James “Jim” Harold Carleton

HERMON / DOVER-FOXCROFT – James “Jim” Harold Carleton, 71, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at his home, Pleasant Meadows, in Dover-Foxcroft.

Jim was born on April 25, 1953 at Bangor General Hospital. He grew up and went to school in Hermon.

Jim was a long-time employee of Freese’s Department Store in Bangor. He went on to work for several locations of Jim Swett’s Service Stations in Bangor and Orono. He later worked for many years at UniFirst Uniform Company, again in Bangor.

Jim enjoyed watching NASCAR and local races in Winterport, Unity, Wiscasset, Oxford and Louden, NH. Although reserved and shy, Jim always had a Three Stooges quote of “education” ready for anyone in the family who would listen. Jim spent most of his time with his family, especially his parents, helping to care for them in their final years of independent living.

Jim was always in a good mood when family was around for vacations and summer gatherings. Jim especially enjoyed seeing his nieces, nephews, and great-nephews as they grew up over the years. Jim really enjoyed sharing meatball pizzas and Pepsi with anyone who brought something for an outing or something to share.

In 2011, Jim began his residency at the Burr Group Home in Brewer. Since 2014, Jim has been a resident of Pleasant Meadows in Dover-Foxcroft. The family is grateful for all the quality attention, care, and affection he has received at each facility.

Jim is survived by two brothers, John Carleton and his wife Colleen (O’Connor) of Hermon, and Jeffrey “Jeff” and his wife Jennifer (Gendron) of Lewiston; his nephew, Derrick Carleton and his wife Sara (Burrill) of Glenburn, his nieces Tonya Carleton of Bangor and Ashley Carleton of Levant, and his cousin Benjamin Carleton of Lewiston; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.

Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Michael “Mike” Carleton in 1989; his father, Harold Carleton in 2010, and his mother, Irene Sanford Carleton in 2014.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Winterport.

Arrangements are under the care of Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. Condolences and memories may be sent to http://www.laryfuneralhome.com.
