Florida man arrested after making death threats against Trump and Vance on social media

A Florida man accused of making threats against former President Donald Trump, Sen. J.D. Vance and their families was arrested Friday (July 19), police said.

Jupiter police announced that 68-year-old Michael M. Wiseman was arrested Friday on suspicion of making written death threats.

According to Major Don Hennessy of the Jupiter Police Department, Wiseman was arrested without incident and is now being held in the Palm Beach County Jail.

Wiseman remained in jail Friday night, a jail official confirmed.

The employee said she did not know if Wiseman had an attorney she could contact for comment.

Investigators said Wiseman sent several written threats this week via the social media channel Facebook to Trump and Vance, who became the Republican presidential and vice presidential candidates.

According to police, threats were also made “regarding bodily harm” against members of the Trump and Vance families. Multiple people reported the messages to local police, both in person and online.

Jupiter, it should be noted, is about 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach. The search was conducted in conjunction with the U.S. Secret Service and the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office, police said.

The threat came just days after Trump was shot in a shocking attempted assassination of the president at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
