One woman dies, four others are seriously injured in a crash in Des Moines Saturday night

One woman was killed and four others were injured in a crash on the east side of Des Moines Saturday night, according to a news release from the Des Moines Police Department.

According to a press release from Sergeant Paul Parizek, it was the 11th fatal traffic accident this year in the city.

The crash happened Saturday night at approximately 8:03 p.m., according to the news release. Patrol officers and emergency personnel from the Des Moines Fire Department responded to the intersection of Second and Holcomb Avenues, near Birdland Pool.

The woman died at the scene, the press release said. Firefighters transported four people with serious injuries — two adults and two minors — to local hospitals.

The crash temporarily closed Second Avenue between Hull and Franklin Avenues Saturday evening.

The police traffic unit is investigating the crash. Police said more information will be shared as it becomes available.
