Nancy Porter-Johnson Obituary –

Nancy Carol Porter-Johnson of Broomfield Colorado passed away on Friday, July 12th after a 10 year battle with ovarian cancer. Nancy was born on August 13, 1950 to Charles and Joan Turner in Des Moines, Iowa. She moved to Colorado to pursue a Fine Arts Degree at CU and later a degree in Accounting at CU Denver.

Nancy began her career as an accountant in the mid 80’s and nurtured her clients as her business grew. Those clients became friends and now many of them are considered family. Her love of the mountains began as soon as she arrived, she was a ski instructor at Aspen Highlands in the mid 70’s and was an avid hiker in the Front Range, earning her the nickname “Bear Scout” due to her many bear encounters over the years.

Nancy was involved in her community in a variety of ways. She was a member of the American Society of Women Accountants, where she mentored and prepared women for a profession that was then dominated by men. She also volunteered at FRIENDS of Broomfield, where she helped with the annual variety show and appeared on stage as Blanche

Nancy played her later years as an accordionist, both solo and with The Rocky Mountain Monarch Accordion Band. Her mantlepiece at home is filled with the various awards and trophies she received from accordion competitions.

Nancy is survived by her husband Leonard, son Spencer, and stepchildren Michelle (Bret & Tyler) and Derek, as well as her brother Charles Turner.

A celebration of life will be held at her home, 1324 Aspen St, Broomfield on August 10.

A fund is being established in her name for the placement of a bench and a tree in Broomfield.
