DOVER FOXCROFT — Capture Humanity will screen the compelling film “Woman Rising” at the Center Theatre for the Performing Arts at 20 East Main Street at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 in Dover-Foxcroft. The film tells the story of a courageous survivor of human sex trafficking and sheds light on the problem of human trafficking, its mechanisms and community actions to combat this crime.

This film delves into the harsh realities of sex and human trafficking in America with a strong emphasis on the resilience and strength of survivors. “This film chronicles the life of a woman who was trafficked for nearly a decade and her quest to raise awareness for this horrific social issue. Human trafficking is a gender issue with a disproportionate number of victims being women, and human trafficking continues to grow, especially in rural areas,” said Matilde Simas, founder of Capture Humanity.

Human trafficking statistics show a very sad reality for many individuals. Behind every statistic is a person – someone’s mother, father, brother or sister. These statistics give insight into the seriousness of the problem.

Today, 49.6 million people worldwide live in modern slavery, 12 million of whom are children (ILO, United Nations).

In 2022, 88 million child sexual abuse cases were reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s hotline.
