SHAWNEE COUNTY — Law enforcement is investigating two suspects on multiple charges following a confrontation.

On July 18, a Shawnee County sheriff’s deputy encountered a suspect with an active crime in the driveway of a residence at 2800 BLK SW Indian Hills Road, said Shawnee County Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Wanamaker.

The officer attempted to make contact with the subject, who immediately ran inside. As officers approached the home, a second subject confronted them with an AR-style rifle. When officers confronted that subject, he refused to comply with law enforcement commands and made movements consistent with circulating the firearm in the room.

Nathaniel Javier Ayala-Hinkle, 26, of Topeka, was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on a charge of aggravated interference with law enforcement, as well as two Shawnee County warrants for aggravated misdemeanors and a warrant for a city of Topeka misdemeanor.

Francisco Javier Ayala-Silva, 55, of Topeka, was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on two charges: aggravated assault on a police officer and aggravated obstruction of law enforcement.
