Two people killed, another injured in two separate crashes on Arkansas roads | The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

Two people were killed and another injured in two separate crashes on Arkansas roads on Saturday and Sunday, according to preliminary reports from the Arkansas State Police.

A minor, whose name and age were not released, died around 2:07 pm Saturday when the Nissan Maxima the minor was driving south on Highway 71 in Sebastian County near Huntington traveled over the center line and collided head-on with a freightliner traveling northbound on the highway. Following the impact, the freightliner then veered to the right side of the roadway and came to a stop, while the vehicle the minor was driving began to spin counterclockwise and came to a final rest in the middle of the roadwayt, the Arkansas State Police said .

In a separate incident, Michael Hollis II, 29, of Crossroads, Texas, was heading north on Jefferson Ave. in Texarkana when the Suzuki motorcycle he was driving collided with a passenger vehicle traveling south at the intersection of Jefferson Ave. and Arkansas Blvd. around 1:02 am on Sunday. Zachary Graf, 19, the driver of the passenger vehicle, was treated on the scene by LifeNet for minor cuts and bruising sustained from the collision. Both drivers were taken to St. Michael’s Hospital in Texarkana, Texas, where Hollis succumbed to his wounds around 11:02 am, the report said.

According to a news release from the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department, Hollis was being arrested by an officer after he and two other motorcyclists fled the scene of a traffic stop in the 3600 block of Arkansas Blvd.

The other two motorcyclists involved in the pursuit have not yet been appreciated.

The crash is being investigated by the Arkansas State Police, the news release said.

The officers investigating each of the crashes reported that the weather was clear and the roads were dry at the time of the incidents.
