Louisiana leaders react after Biden drops out of presidential race

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Several Louisiana leaders are reacting to the news that President Biden has decided to withdraw from the 2024 White House race.

The following statement was released by Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Davante Lewis:

The following statement was released by U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson:

“At this unprecedented moment in American history, we need to be clear about what just happened. The Democratic Party has removed the Democratic candidate from the ballot, just over 100 days before the election.

“By invalidating the votes of more than 14 million Americans who voted for Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential candidate, the self-proclaimed ‘party of democracy’ has proven the exact opposite.

“The party’s prospects are no better now with Vice President Kamala Harris, who has co-owned the Biden administration’s disastrous policy failures. As second-in-command and a thoroughly inept border czar, Harris has been a gleeful accomplice — not only in the destruction of American sovereignty, security, and prosperity, but also in the greatest political cover-up in American history. She has known about his inability to serve as long as anyone.

“Regardless of the chaos in the current White House, our adversaries around the world must be reminded that the United States Congress, the American military, and the American people are fully prepared and committed to defending our interests both at home and abroad.

“If Joe Biden is not fit to run for president, he is not fit to serve as president. He must resign immediately. November 5th cannot come soon enough.”

The following statement was released by US Senator Bill Cassidy:

I have been pointing out for two years that President Biden’s mental capacity is declining. During that time, he has thrown the country, the economy, and the Democratic Party into total chaos. This decision is overdue.
