Valley News – West Lebanon warehouse damaged by fire

WEST LEBANON — A warehouse on Benning Street was damaged by fire Thursday evening.

Lebanon Firefighters responded to a fire alarm at 82 Benning St. shortly after 9:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Lebanon Fire Department. No one was injured. Firefighters are still investigating the cause, which is “not considered suspicious.”

When emergency workers saw black smoke coming from the 15,000-square-meter multi-purpose warehouse, they sent out a call for additional help.

“Initial investigation revealed a heavy smoke condition in the front office area of the building with active sprinkler flow,” the release said. Firefighters found that the sprinkler system prevented the fire from spreading beyond the room where it started, illustrating “how an operating sprinkler system significantly reduced property loss and assisted the sole occupant in the building to safely escape.”

Firefighters, including those from the Hartford, Hanover and Norwich fire departments, remained on scene until 10:45 p.m.

The building is owned by Benning Street LLC of Worcester, Massachusetts, and has an estimated value of $7.6 million, according to Lebanon property records.
