Denver Broncos place DB Delarrin Turner-Yell on PUP list

The Denver Broncos had three players who were unable to play on Sunday. That list includes one of their young defensive backs in Delarrin Turner-Yell.

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport released a number of player names from around the league as training camps get underway. Denver had Turner-Yell, DB Caden Sterns and LB Drew Sanders on the PUP list. Turner-Yell and Sterns are reportedly dealing with knee issues, while Sanders is rehabbing a torn Achilles tendon.

Turner-Yell is entering his third season as a safety for the Broncos. He has appeared in 30 games in those first two campaigns, including 16 in 2023, two of which will be as a starter.

In those opportunities, Turner-Yell has posted 42 tackles, two fumble recoveries, a quarterback hit and a pass deflection. There was improvement in his play from a rookie to his sophomore year, as he had 34 tackles and the deflection last fall.

Denver selected him from Turner-Yell Oklahoma in the fifth round with the 152nd pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He turned pro after a four-year college career at Norman. While a Sooner, Turner-Yell made 191 tackles, 10 of which were lost. He also had six deflections, four interceptions, and a forced fumble.

Turner-Yell has been a progressive frontrunner in his NFL development thus far, but his third year will start off slower because he is currently away from the field.

More on Broncos placing Drew Sanders on PUP list

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Denver Broncos have placed Drew Sanders on the list of players who are physically unable to perform (PUP).

The former third-round pick tore his Achilles tendon in April, requiring surgery and is expected to recover in six to nine months.

Sanders was solid in his rookie season, finishing with 24 total tackles and a fumble recovery, starting four of the 17 games he appeared in.
