Many gather to celebrate the life of Springfield musician Mark “Howie” Denny

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Many gathered on Sunday to celebrate the life of local music legend Mark “Howie” Denny.

A musician from the Ozarks who played with several bands in the area and left a lasting impression on the live music scene.

Howie recently suffered a stroke and passed away, leaving his family with a large medical debt. This inspired his good friend and former bandmate to organize a fundraiser for Howie’s family.

“I’ve never met such a sincere man in my life. He didn’t want a funeral, he didn’t want any of that nonsense. He just wanted people to come together, have fun and make music,” event organizer and band member Don Randolph said.

You can learn more about Howie in the video below. He and Michael “Supe” Granda, of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, created a project called Local King, which spotlights local musicians of all kinds.
