“Russell’s work ethic, his dedication to this state and his deep connections in Georgia make him an exceptional choice for this role,” Burns said. He also praised Karen Keen for her unwavering support and anticipated contributions to the university community.

Dr. Keen gave a heartfelt speech, reflecting on his journey and expressing his deep appreciation for the support of his family, including his wife of 22 years, Karen.

“Now is the time to rise up and be the best university in America,” Keen said. He continued, “Whether you’re a freshman or a postdoc, whether you’re a long-standing faculty member or a volunteer faculty member, whether you’re a first-time visitor, a job applicant, a foundation trustee or something else, we’re going to commit to setting ourselves on a lofty path to respect everyone and find ways to demonstrate our focused value while ensuring that every interaction — each interaction — is one that we strive to excel at. That is the Augusta way.”

With Dr. Keen as its leader, the university is poised for continued success and progress, driven by a clear vision and a dedicated leadership team.
