Sacramento started strong, scoring in the fifth minute through Kieran Phillips to give Oakland an early 1-0 lead.

In the 27th minute the visitors doubled their lead when Shane Wiedt scored to double the lead.

Nick Ross made the lead almost impossible just before halftime, giving Sacramento a 3-0 lead into the break.

Oakland Roots coach Gavin Glinton made a number of changes at half-time to flip the script, but it was to Oakland’s detriment as they conceded a goal straight away in the second half when Kieran Phillips scored twice to make it 4-0.

Oakland managed to claw back a few points when Johnny Rodriguez scored in the 55th and 71st minutes to make it 4-2.

Trevor Amann then provided the icing on the cake for Sacramento when he scored their fifth goal, ending any hopes of a Roots comeback.

Oakland now heads to Miami next Saturday night for an East Coast trip.

In conversation with head coach Gavin Glinton

Gavin, 10 goals conceded in the last two. What do you think went wrong in the last two? What are some of your key points?

Just nowhere near an acceptable level of effort, to be honest, in both games, unacceptable, it’s embarrassing, the lack of effort and dedication. Today, not even close. You know, it’s a derby, and it seemed like one team realised it, and the other team only realised it at half-time. It’s just not been anywhere near acceptable in terms of effort, dedication, focus, all those things that we’ve focused on for the last 12 weeks.

What’s your message for the locker room?

I mean, it’s almost not starting over, but it’s definitely breaking it down again, because I think we’ve gotten ahead of ourselves and started thinking that we don’t need to do some of the things that have gotten us here the last few games, that’s for sure. So it’s going to break that down again and make sure we get into the details.
