Maui Police Arrest Suspect in Kaanapali Murder Case

Maui police have arrested a 46-year-old Lahaina man in connection with the suspected murder of another man Saturday on Honoapiilani Highway in Kaanapali.

Lahaina patrol officers responded to a report of suspicious activity at approximately 11:46 a.m. Upon arrival, they were directed by a bystander to a 53-year-old Lahaina man who was breathing but unresponsive and had a serious injury to his arm, Maui police said.

One of the officers applied a tourniquet to the victim’s arm and life support was administered until the Maui Fire Department and EMS arrived to take over. The victim died during transport to Maui Memorial Medical Center in Wailuku.

Police are withholding his identity until family is notified. No further information will be released about the cause of death.

MPD said a witness saw the suspect standing over the victim’s body before driving away in a red 2007 Honda Element. At approximately 1:08 p.m. Saturday, officers found the Honda abandoned on Honoapiilani Highway in the Olowalu area.

At approximately 4:03 p.m., police located the suspect in Honokowai Park, where he was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder. He remains in police custody pending charges.
