Texas Airport Disruptions? Delays Today? Here’s Why Flights Are Being Canceled

In Texas, American Airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines grounded their flights less than an hour after Microsoft announced it had fixed a cloud services outage that affected several low-cost carriers.

It was not immediately clear whether the call to halt flights was related to the Microsoft cloud outage.

Texas DPS Office Closed

The Texas Department of Public Safety Driver License Offices are closed due to a technical issue, the department announced Friday morning. Customers with appointments should have been notified. No estimated time for resolving the issue was given.

Cyber attack at airport?

The outages appear to be related to an update from cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike, which is used by more than half of the Fortune 500 companies, the US company said in a promotional video this year.

In a post on X, CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz said the outage was not a “security incident or cyberattack.”

He said it was related to a “defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts.” He said the issue “has been identified, isolated, and a fix has been implemented.”

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, several U.S. airlines, including American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, have suspended all early morning flights due to communications problems.

Why were flights cancelled and delayed?

A failure in Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing platform has hampered airline operations.

Our team is investigating and working on a resolution.”
