Weekend Baseball Roundup: Tilden earns doubleheader sweep

AUGUSTA — The Tilden Tigers swept a Chippewa River Baseball League doubleheader against the Augusta Athletics on Sunday by scores of 15-3 and 16-4.

Lucas Steinmetz, Jacob Lacy and Jakeb Lequia had two hits apiece while Marcus Cline and Lequia drove in two runs each and each doubled. Jordan Steinmetz and Lucas Steinmetz each stole two bases in support of Cam Hazelton who allowed three earned runs in four innings with four strikeouts in the victory. Cole Stensen had four of Augusta’s 10 hits with JJ Breaker added two hits and an RBI.

Tilden scored in each of the final seven innings of the second win. Jordan Steinmetz, Lucas Steinmetz, Cline, Lacy and Ben Steinmetz had two hits apiece. Ben Steinmetz drove in four runs, Lucas Steinmetz homered, Jordan Steinmetz plated two runs and the trio of Cline, Jon Schoch and Brendan Bresina each drove in two for Tilden (14-3). Stephen Scatassa struck out six in allowing four runs (one earned) in five innings for the win on the hill. Haydn Gustafson was 3-for-4 and Logan Brown and Ashton Oliver added two hits apiece and one RBI each for the Athletics (4-14).

At Bloomer, the Red Sox had 23 hits in a win.

Leo Lauscher homered in a 4-for-4 effort at the plate with four runs scored and four runs batted in. Logan Burzynski had four hits including two doubles and three RBIs, Jack Redwine, Carter Hesselman and Zac Merritt had three hits each with Hesselman driving in four and Redwine plating two and Ely Johnson was 2-for-6 for Cadott (9-9). Zack Thiesse struck out six in seven innings of a two-hit shutout.

Ethan Rothbauer and Corey Poirier each had a hit for Bloomer (1-17).

Chippewa Falls 0-3, Eau Claire Cavaliers 5-0

At Casper Park, the LumberJacks and Cavs split a doubleheader with Eau Claire winning 5-0 in game one before the ‘Jacks pitched a 3-0 shutout in game two.

Andrew Milner scattered three hits across seven scoreless innings in victory for the Cavaliers, striking out four. Brayton Thillman finished 2-for-4 and Cody Dayton drove in three runs. Tyson Lucas singled and stole a base for Chippewa Falls.

Lucas tossed a three-hit shutout in the second game, striking out nine while allowing one walk. Caleb Gardow and Trevor Franz had a double apiece while Preston Alger, Blake Trippler and Matt Martineau drove in runs for the LumberJacks (9-9). Dayton had two of the team’s three hits for the Cavaliers (11-6).

Eau Claire Rivermen 6-6, Jim Falls 1-1

At Eau Claire, the Rivermen took two from the Sturgeons by twin 6-1 scores.

Tyler Gray struck out five in seven innings, allowing one earned run for the win in game one. Lance Lettner, Joel Effertz and Luke Rooney had two hits apiece while Effertz, James Davis, Joe Myrold and Sawyer Sturz each driving in a run. Jackson Gugel was 2-for-3 and Bob Mauer had an RBI for the Sturgeons.

Jesse Urbanek went the distance in game two for Eau Claire, striking out four and scattering five hits and two walks. Sturz was 2-for-3 with two runs bated in, including a two-run single in a six-run sixth inning. Blake Loegering later drilled a three-run home run in the same inning in a surge started with a James Davis RBI double for the Rivermen (8-10). Carter Stelter drove in a run for the Sturgeons (7-11).

Chippewa Falls 2-2 in Plover

At Plover, Post 77 split four games at the Plover tournament.

Chippewa Falls opened play Friday with a 5-0 shutout over Janesville. Carter Berg and Ethan Sowieja teamed up to toss a one-hit shutout, starting with six innings from Berg with seven strikeouts before Sowieja tossed a scoreless seventh with a punchout. Preston Alger was 2-for-3 with a double, Brady Smith had three hits and scored twice and Chase Fredrick was 2-for-3 with a run batted in and two runs scored. The host Plover earnd a 6-5 win over Post 77 in the second game of the day on Friday. Lucas Logslett and Alger had three hits apiece with Alger driving in all four runs and doubling in defeat. Berg had two hits and Jaxen Donohue allowed three runs (one earned) across five innings with three strikeouts.

Saturday began with a 9-8 Chippewa Falls walk-off win over Manitowoc. Jackson Gugel had two triples and four RBIs in a 3-for-5 performance at the plate, Smith was 3-for-4, Carter Stelter drove in two and Ian Denning had two hits for Post 77. Sowieja earned the win in relief. Post 77 concluded the tournament with a 5-4 defeat against Sheboygan. Stelter and Berg had two hits apiece while Smith, Stelter and Berg had one RBI each.
