Minors charged with stealing garage door opener from car in Newington

NEWINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Newington police say two teenagers have been arrested after allegedly stealing a garage door opener from a vehicle on Sunday.

Police said they received a report of a theft from a motor vehicle on Spruce Street around 8 p.m. The report was made by two suspects dressed all in black.


The suspects are suspected of stealing the device from a vehicle parked in the driveway and then fleeing on foot.

They were located by officers on Cedar Street, just west of Old Farm Drive. Despite running from officers, they were both apprehended.

The 15-year-old and 16-year-old were both charged with third-degree burglary, complicity in third-degree burglary and obstructing an officer.

They have both been released and placed in the care of their parents. They will appear in juvenile court at a later date.
