“I haven’t had any phone calls”

“I think there’s a chance, but I haven’t had any phone calls or anything,” Arquette said on ‘Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen’

It doesn’t look like Dewey Riley will appear in the next film. Scream movie.

David Arquette seems to have dismissed all hope that his favorite character would return to the franchise in the upcoming film. Scream 7after a fan called to Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen to ask if we could see the deceased Dewey “in some form,” such as in a flashback sequence.

“I don’t think so — I mean, I don’t know!” Arquette, 52, said with a laugh during an appearance on the show on Sunday, July 21.

The actor added: “I think there’s a chance, but I haven’t had any phone calls or anything yet.”

He also denied that returning star Neve Campbell had told him anything about the upcoming film, which will see Campbell, 50, reprise her iconic role of Sidney Prescott.

After the success of Scream VIwhich was released in March 2023 and earned the biggest opening weekend of the entire franchise, a seventh film was announced in August.

In April 2023, Arquette said Variety that he had watched the final installment of the slasher franchise even after his character Dewey was killed off in the 2022 film Scream.

“It was hard for me to do it, but I also knew I wanted to see it,” Arquette told the outlet about his feelings about seeing the sequel. “I loved it.”

“It was sad. I had a lot of FOMO,” he added.

Arquette previously starred in the first five Scream films alongside series regulars Campbell and Courteney Cox, who form a trio of heroes who are constantly hunted by serial killers who assume the role of Ghostface and subsequently thwart them.

Arquette wasn’t the only original franchise not to participate in Scream VIAlthough Campbell’s character Sidney survived the war in 2022, ScreamThe actress announced later that year that she had decided not to play her last female role for her latest film.

In a June 2022 statement, Campbell said, in part, “I felt the offer made to me was disproportionate to the value I brought to the franchise.”

In March, Campbell announced that she would reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in the new film, after newer stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega left.

“I lived with Sidney for 30 years and I’m really grateful to be back there,” Campbell told PEOPLE in May of his return to the horror franchise for the seventh film.

She added: “I’m really excited that (screenwriter) Kevin Williamson is going to direct. I think he’s wanted to do it for years and he deserves it. This is his baby. He’s going to do a phenomenal job.”
