New Owners Bring Inn at Mount Snow ‘Back to Life’ | Business

WEST DOVER — The Inn at Mount Snow will reopen this fall with new owners at the helm.

A group of four partners, who are part of a real estate networking community and live in several states, closed on the sale on May 6. The Inn at Mount Snow is their first project as a team.

“You can’t beat the location,” said Alexa Dealy, director. “It’s right at the base of Mount Snow.”

Her group sees a lot of potential in their purchase.

“We like to take neglected properties and bring them back to life,” she said. “When we saw this property, we knew immediately how much potential there really was.”

Julie Carani, director, said the group was looking for larger investment properties after individual members made smaller investments such as single-family homes and fix and flips.

“Some of us have experience in hospitality,” she said. “And boutique hotels are on the rise. People are looking for experiential travel, rather than standard accommodations that you can find anywhere. They’re looking for more charm. And so we thought a boutique hotel would be really fun to design.”

Carani called the inn “a perfect cultural destination to be truly creative.”

“That was what intrigued me,” she said.

The group had been tipped off about the property by Dealy’s mother, who lives at SnowTree Condos in West Dover and frequently walks past it on her walks. She strongly encouraged Dealy to check it out for herself.

The mountain views, proximity to the resort and access to the Moover buses made the hostel very attractive to the group.

“It’s really unbeatable,” Dealy said.

Renovations are underway, with updates posted on the inn’s Instagram page. Reed Construction and local contractors are handling the work, which includes a new roof and updating the electrical and plumbing systems.

Carani said the plan is to hire an innkeeper to support the property and its guests.

“But we are also working on making a hotel as automated as possible. We are really putting the latest technology in it, so that the hotel can run almost independently,” she said.

A phone app allows guests to make reservations, enter the hotel and their room, and obtain other information. AV systems are being installed for use by business travelers and small corporate groups.

Carani said the entire hotel will be equipped with fiber optic, “so the internet is really top quality.”

Her group plans to host events with live music and food trucks, as well as weddings.

“We also want to work with a lot of local businesses to support that,” Carani said, citing bakeries, restaurants, caterers, farms and manufacturers of soap and maple syrup.

During events, mainly alcohol and food are served.

“It will be a limited service hotel,” Carani said. “We want to support our guests when they arrive and make it as easy as possible for them. But we’re also not interested in running a restaurant in the inn.”

Dealy lives in Windham, New Hampshire and describes himself as the “boots on the ground.” Carani and another partner live in Chicago, and the other partner lives in Florida and Chicago.

Before the takeover, Carani and another partner visited the area and met the local people.

“We just let ourselves in and introduced ourselves and got to know the property, and we just fell in love with the mountains,” she said. “They were so beautiful.”

Dealy said the group can’t wait to hire locals and show them “the finished product.”

“One of our big things is just supporting local, right?” she said. “It’s a smaller town, you know, we’re here to support local. We may not all live in the neighborhood, but I’m a local person … so we were really excited to keep it with small groups of investors, mom and pop investors, not these big corporations that come in and buy everything up and then put the little mom and pop places out of business.”
