Glascock County mourns 21-year-old athlete killed in crash

GIBSON, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Glascock County residents are mourning a former student athlete who died over the weekend in a traffic accident.

Dee Gilmore, 21, died in a single-vehicle accident Saturday morning on Highway 24 East outside Lousivile, Glascock County Sheriff Jeremy Kelley said.

Kelley will help host a balloon release and remembrance in honor of Gilmore in the town square at 7 pm Wednesday.

Kelley said Gilmore touched a lot of lives.

Tristan Stone was a volunteer firefighter with Hopewell Fire Department

“He was one of the most respectful young men you’d ever meet,” Kelley said.

He was well-known because he played football, basketball and baseball.

“The kids are super-close here,” Kelley said, because it’s a small town.

“But the student athletes are even closer.”

Gilmore was an unforgettable young man, Kelley said.

“He was one of those people that always brought a smile to everyone’s face,” Kelley said.

The balloon release will include a speaker and microphone for friends who would like to share some letter stories and memories, and there will be a prayer poster to give to the family.

Participants should bring a red balloon.
