McDonald’s expands $5 meal, memo says

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) – McDonald’s $5 menu will remain available a little longer as the fast food chain says it wants to lure customers back into its stores.

CNBC obtained a memo from company executives stating that the restaurants wanted to extend the promotion beyond the planned four-week promotional period.

According to the memo, most stores will extend the promotion through August.

The menu first launched on June 25 and includes the McChicken, the McDouble, four pieces of chicken nuggets with fries and a drink for $5, or less than what it would cost to buy the items individually.

McDonald’s is among the chains trying to boost declining sales as diners, especially those on lower incomes, pass up rising restaurant prices.
