Kansas Powerball Winners Hidden $200,000 in Prizes Expiring Soon

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Four winning Powerball prizes from last year will soon expire unless the mystery winners come forward to claim their money.

Cory Thone with the Kansas Lottery tells 27 News that there are $200,000 in Powerball lottery winnings that expire in September and October of this year. This prize money comes from four separate drawings, two of which are on the same day, and must be claimed soon at the Kansas Lottery headquarters in Topeka.

Lottery players in Kansas have exactly one calendar year to claim their winnings. If the prize remains unclaimed after the one-year deadline, the money goes back to the lottery. Details on the four prizes, each worth $50,000, are below:

  • Winning numbers: 9-14-20-23-63, Powerball 1.
    • September 6.
    • Sold in northeastern Kansas.
    • Jackpot of $461 million.
  • Winning numbers: 47-54-57-60-65, Powerball 19.
    • October 7th.
    • Sold in northeastern Kansas.
    • $1.4 billion jackpot.
  • Winning numbers: 22-24-40-52-64, Powerball 10
    • 11 October.
    • Sold in south-central Kansas and northeastern Kansas.
    • $1.725 Billion Jackpot

Thone said prizes of $599 or more must be claimed in person at the Kansas Lottery headquarters or via a mail-in claim. Click here for more information on these unclaimed winnings and other Kansas Lottery prizes that are still up for grabs.

“Draw game prizes expire one year from the date of the draw, so for a prize won on September 6, 2023, the winner has until closing time (5:00 p.m.) on that day to start the claim process,” Thone said.

On July 10, 2024, an anonymous winner stepped forward to claim a $1 million Powerball prize that was also set to expire this year. This happened less than 24 hours after 27 News published a story about the unclaimed prize.

The Powerball jackpot is $102 million and the cash value is $48.9 million. The next drawing will be on Monday evening, July 22. Click here for more information about the Powerball.
