DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon (D-5th District) has voiced her support for Vice President Kamala Harris for president in the wake of President Joe Biden removing himself from the 2024 election.

In a statement Sunday evening, Scanlon said Harris is “uniquely qualified to continue this Administration’s important work, to restore the guardrails of our democratic republic, and to defeat Donald Trump—again.”

She also lauded Biden’s time in government.

“President Biden has served our nation with fidelity, patriotism, and honor as a Senator, Vice President, and now President,” she said. “During one of the most tumultuous and consequential periods since our nation’s founding, he has defended American freedoms and interests at home and abroad with a steady hand, helped to avert economic disaster, and championed historic investments in the middle class, infrastructure, healthcare, climate rescue, and more.”

She said it’s been an honor to work with Biden, and the Biden-Harris administration, but said that work is “far from done.”

“Let’s get to work,” she said.
