Unfortunately, Gabby suffered an ankle injury while practicing her signature move, which meant she was unable to continue. In June, she recalled in an Instagram postt, “Wow, what a journey. First of all I want to say that I am eternally grateful for all of your support, grace and love. It truly touched my heart.”

Gabby has not competed at the Olympic Games since her gold medal in Rio in 2016. “I thought, ‘I can’t do it.’ I always thought about going back to gymnastics, but I thought, I don’t know, because it’s always, ‘You have to be 16. You have to be fresh.’ I was called old at my second Olympic Games!,” she said E-news.

Speaking to the outlet, she admitted that she wanted to return for the 2028 Olympics, which are set to take place in Los Angeles, California. “I will say that I am very grateful to have gotten back in the gym, learned new skills, picked up my old skills, just relived and re-experienced the competitive scene,” she said.

She added: ‘When I came back and got on the right diet, got on the right structure, got on the right schedule, I thought, oh, I can maybe do this… So it’s really fun to play with different skills. I had never done some of the skills that I’ve done in this trip before.”

Although she will not be attending the Paris Olympics, she will be cheering on her U.S. gymnastics team, which includes her former teammate Simon Biles together with Solar Isa Lee, Jade Carey, Hezly RiveraAnd Jordanian Chiles.
