ATV Struck By Truck in Southern Idaho

An ATV was struck by a pickup truck on a road in Southern Idaho on Saturday evening.

Idaho State Police have reported that a 2-vehicle crash happened on eastbound E 500 South near S 2400 East in Hazelton. The accident occurred at 10:35 PM on Saturday, July 20th in Hazelton:

A 32-year-old male of Hazelton was traveling eastbound in a 1994 Chevy G20 Van. A 28-year-old male, was traveling eastbound on a 2017 Honda ATV with a 25-year-old female, as his passenger, both out of Hazelton.

The Chevy impacted the rear of the ATV and the riders were thrown from the vehicle.

Both occupants of the ATV were taken to local hospitals by air ambulance. The driver of the truck was not transported. Idaho State Police are investigating the accident.

The location of the accident in Hazelton is part of District 4 in Southern Idaho. The district also covers Blaine, Camas, Cassia, Gooding, Jerome, Lincoln, Minidoka, and Twin Falls Counties.

Aggressive Driving a Focus for Idaho State Police

ISP are participating in an initiative to combat aggressive driving in Idaho. The effort is a collaboration with more than 50 other local law enforcement agencies through August 11th.

There will be an increase in patrols to target aggressive drivers. In 2023, aggressive driving contributed to 103 deaths and around 14,000 crashes. The ISP report states that these numbers are higher in 2024.

Idaho State Police and other local law enforcement will be watching for drivers who exhibit aggressive driving behaviors, which includes:

  • Speeding
  • Driving too fast for conditions
  • Tailgating
  • Reckless lane changes
  • Ignoring traffic signals
  • Failing to yield
  • Cutting in front of another driver and then slowing down
  • Weaving in and out of traffic
  • Changing lanes without signaling
  • Running stop signs
