Sheriff identifies Kansas man who died after car crashed into tree

SHAWNEE COUNTY – Authorities have identified the Kansas man killed in a crash in Shawnee County around 3 a.m. Sunday as Chance M. Lucas, 28, of Topeka.

According to Deputy Abigail Christian, investigators determined that a 2019 Nissan Altima driven by Lucas was westbound on SW 33rd Street when it ran a stop sign at SW Auburn Road and struck a tree on the west side of the road. Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Christian, the accident is still under investigation.
