APS launches program to help customers find trusted technology installers

PHOENIX — It’s a new way to find reputable installation services for homeowners. In the first quarter of 2024, Arizona Public Service launched a program to help consumers find companies they can trust.

Customers often rely on word of mouth or search online for companies to find the services they need, so it is important for a consumer making a major purchase to do their research.

The Let ABC15 Know Team encourages consumers to shop around, compare quotes and consult references when purchasing home technology.

With thousands of installers spread across Arizona, choosing a company can be daunting, but APS hopes the program will screen companies to help customers avoid scams.

Kerri Carnes, director of Customer Grid Solutions for APS, said the program is called the Qualified Technology Installer Program.

“We wanted to make sure that you knew who would be a reliable source to go to,” Carnes explained. “It’s an important program that provides resources for our customers to go and find sources or installers that have been verified.”

The program provides a list of vetted companies to choose from for HVAC installation, EV chargers, solar installation, and more—basically any type of technology a homeowner might want installed in their home.

To qualify for the program, installers must complete several steps before being listed on the APS program website.

“They are rated by the Better Business Bureau, they have a ‘B’ or better rating and they are registered with the Registry of Contractors,” Carnes said.

Carnes added that they also have to undergo hours of training on APS programs and rates.

Installers must have a good reputation and maintain their qualifications to remain on the list.

“That list is continually updated so we can ensure that the installers who participate in the program maintain that level of performance and our customers can trust them,” Carnes said.

APS does not have direct cooperation with the installation companies, but this can be a good starting point for consumers.
