Suspected cop killer arrested in Detroit

A manhunt is over for the suspected police say killed a Melvindale Police Officer Mohamed Said.

Michael Lopez was arrested tonight around 6:24 pm in the 3400 block of Gilbert in SW Detroit.

Through the course of the investigation conducted by the Second District Special Investigation Section, the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team, K9, CBP Aviation, ATF, and US Marshals, located Lopez and placed him under arrest.

The Michigan State Police Second District Special Investigation Section wishes to thank the following agencies for their assistance: Dearborn PD, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Melvindale PD, Southgate PD, Detroit PD, Southfield PD, Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Farmington Hills PD, Allen Park PD, Inkster PD, Wyandotte PD, Warren PD, Lincoln Park PD, Brownstown PD, River Rouge PD, ATF, US Marshals Service, FBI, Customs and Border Protection – Air Marine, MSP Aviation, and the Michigan State Police Forensic Laboratory.

The collaborative efforts of all of these agencies brought this wanted individual into custody. The investigation continues and will be forwarded to the Wayne County Prosecutor this week.
