Driver may have had medical emergency before crashing into lake – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) — A driver was found dead after a truck struck a mailbox, drove through a yard, damaged a carport and a fence and ended up in a lake, the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday night.

The name of the driver had not yet been released on Monday evening.

A witness saw the scene unfold just before 3:45 p.m. Monday in the 8000 block of West Old Nashville Road. That’s on State Road 46, about 3 miles west of the I-65 interchange.

A press release from Sgt. Dan Duke said, “The truck eventually went down a hill over a dock on the lakeshore before coming to a rest partially submerged.”

A witness and other residents came to the driver’s aid.

Investigators suspected Monday night that the driver may have had a medical condition before the crash.

The crash site is about a 45-minute drive southeast of downtown Indianapolis.
