Unemployment figures up for local provinces in June

INDIANPOLY – The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) reported Monday that unemployment rates for counties in southern Indiana increased in June compared to May.

For Bartholomew County, the rate was 3.9% in June, up from 3.4% in May. The county reported 42,222 employed residents out of a labor force of 43,914.

Johnson County’s June rate was 3.7%, up from May’s rate of 3.3%. Employed workers totaled 85,709 out of a possible 88,979.

Jackson County posted a 3.8% unemployment rate in June, up from 3.4% it posted the previous month. The county reported 22,128 employed residents out of a labor force of 23,013.

The Jennings County rate for June was 3.9%, compared to 3.6% in May. There were 13,286 workers out of a possible 13,828.

Indiana state officials at DWD also reported that the overall unemployment rate in Hoosiers was 3.8% in June, up slightly from 3.7% in May.
