Inside Joe Biden’s ‘Give Up Hut’

Joe Biden is hiding in Delaware.

Joe Biden is staying at his Delaware home for an extended period after withdrawing from the US presidential race.

It’s where Biden decided to step down as the Democratic candidate for the Nov. 6 election and where the 81-year-old is recovering from a Covid outbreak.

The one-term president has previously said he lives in Rehoboth, Delaware, where he has long lived, allowing him to get more in touch with himself and the mood of the American people.

Biden has owned this Delaware home since 2017.

“When I ran for office, I said I wanted to be president. I didn’t want to live in the White House, I wanted to be able to make decisions about the future of the country,” Biden said in February 2021. He added that living in the White House “is kind of like a gilded cage, in terms of being able to walk out and do things.”

The home has long been criticized by Biden’s critics, who see it as a place where he can meet visitors without being bound by the White House’s visitor log rules.

Critics of the president also called it a “hideout for quitters” after he filed his candidacy.

Joe Biden and his wife Jill bought the three-story, six-bedroom home in 2017 as a place to spend time with family away from Washington, DC.

The house has two large verandas, outdoor showers, a dog wash area and an elevator.

A sign above the front door reads “Beau’s Gift,” a reference to Biden’s son, who died of brain cancer in 2015.

Biden often sought refuge in his beach house.

He did so last July after a “hell week” following the discovery of cocaine in a cage near the basement entrance to the West Wing, a stone’s throw from the Situation Room.

The White House has never disclosed who brought the drugs into the most powerful building in the world.

President Biden has canceled nine trips planned for the next two weeks after abruptly withdrawing from the 2024 race.

The Bidens’ week began with the discovery on Sunday of cocaine in a cage near the basement entrance to the West Wing, just steps from the Situation Room.

Biden was scheduled to leave for the West Coast on Monday, visiting California, Denver, Houston and Austin, among other places. But all of those trips have been suddenly canceled, a White House source told The Post.

Biden, who is in isolation due to COVID-19, was scheduled to leave his home in Rehoboth, Delaware, on Monday but extended his stay until Wednesday after announcing the end of his campaign the night before.

The source was not given a reason why the White House canceled the trips.

Biden’s illness was not directly related to the decision, as presidential physician Kevin O’Connor said Monday that Biden had largely recovered from the illness.

“They started canceling trips when he announced he was not running for re-election,” the source said, adding that the trips were a mix of campaign and official presidential visits.

Biden was also tentatively scheduled to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, but he has no plans to return to Washington DC

Biden, 81, has not been seen in public since Wednesday night when he was diagnosed with COVID. After the diagnosis, the president was seen struggling to get off Air Force One and into his motorcade

Harris addressed Biden’s COVID recovery in her speech about his “legacy” at the White House on Monday. The vice president, who has backed Biden to replace him as the nominee, said Biden “wanted to be here today.”

“He’s feeling much better and recovering quickly and he’s looking forward to getting back out there,” Harris added.

Harris flew to Delaware on Monday to greet campaign staff as she takes charge of the 2024 presidency after Biden’s fall.

Biden — with a very slurred speech — called the headquarters meeting to speak with staffers and Harris, informing them that “the name at the top of the ticket has changed, but the mission has not changed.”

Biden’s lack of physical presence or video address has raised concerns about his whereabouts, with some Republican members of Congress calling for a “proof of life” check

The letter announcing his campaign suspension was not on official White House letterhead and the signature appeared to have been added electronically.

A White House official said Biden received virtual briefings on homeland and national security from Rehoboth on Monday.

Biden spokesman Andrew Bates told The Post on Sunday that Biden “looks forward to completing his term and delivering more historic results for the American people.”

The Rehoboth Beach home hasn’t always been a happy hunting ground for Joe Biden. It was the site of his June 2022 bike accident, one of several incidents that have raised questions about his fitness for office.

Biden has another house nearby, in Wilmington, which he has refinanced no fewer than 20 times.
