Foggy mornings and sunny afternoons for Western Iowa

Des Moines, IA – Western Iowa is experiencing locally dense fog this morning, particularly in valley areas, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines. The fog, which is expected to dissipate by 8 a.m., is causing visibility issues, reducing it to a quarter-mile or less in some locations.

According to the NWS, the fog has developed primarily in the southwestern regions, including parts of Cass and Adair Counties, and extends into Adams and Taylor Counties. Drivers are advised to use low beams and maintain extra distance from other vehicles. Caution is advised, especially at intersections, due to rapidly changing visibility conditions.

The weather forecast for Des Moines and surrounding areas shows a clear progression after the fog lifts. Today’s high will reach 85°F, with partly cloudy conditions expected around 2 PM. The rest of the week promises sunny skies, with highs ranging from 86°F on Wednesday and Thursday to 89°F on Saturday. Temperatures are expected to continue to rise, reaching 92°F on Sunday and peaking at 94°F early next week.
