Iowa DOT closes northeast mixmaster overnight for I-235 bridge work

Please be aware that overnight road construction is in effect Tuesday evening near the northeast mixmaster in Des Moines as portions of the interchange of Interstates 35, 80 and 235 are closed by the Iowa Department of Transportation.

When is the mixmaster in Des Moines closed on Tuesdays?

Weather permitting, crews will close eastbound and northbound I-235 to northbound I-35 on Tuesday evening, July 23, to allow crews to pour concrete for the new bridge deck at the concrete plant.

The closure is expected to begin on Tuesday, July 23 at 8:00 PM and last until approximately 5:00 AM on Wednesday, July 24.

What detour should I take from I-235 during construction?

When the interchange is closed, drivers will follow a marked detour route that begins with the I-235 on-ramp to I-35/I-80 westbound. Take the first exit at NE 14th Street (U.S. Highway 69), head back east on I-35/I-80, and then exit back north on I-35.

Drivers can still enter eastbound I-80 at the mixmaster. Southbound traffic entering I-235 from I-35 will not

The Iowa DOT reminds people to drive carefully, obey speed limits and other signs in the work zone, and be aware that traffic fines for traffic violations in work zones are at least double.
