Victim of fatal motorcycle crash in Kan. found in ravine

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Detectives have found the body of a fatal motorcycle crash victim in Kansas.

At approximately 8 a.m. Monday morning, Topeka Police requested assistance from the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office in the search for a missing Topeka man.

Shortly before 10 a.m., sheriff’s office officers found the body of 80-year-old Lowell W. Lence of Topeka in the 4400 block of SW Auburn Road, Officer Abigail Christian said.

An investigation revealed that a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle being operated by Lence was southbound on SW Auburn Road when it left the roadway. Both the motorcycle and its operator were found several yards off the roadway near the bottom of a ravine in a heavily wooded area. The final resting place of Lence and the motorcycle was not visible from the road. Lence was pronounced dead at the scene.

SW Auburn Road was closed between approximately 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. while detectives investigated.

This incident is still under investigation.
