Bailey for Missouri Condemns Deceptive and Despicable Ads by Defend Missouri PAC – Missouri Sheriffs United Backs Bailey After Negative Ads

Jefferson City, Missouri – The Bailey for Missouri campaign strongly condemns the recent ad released by the Political Action Committee, Defend Missouri, in support of Missouri Attorney General candidate Will Scharf. This despicable and misleading ad exploits the tragic murder case of Hermann Police Detective Sergeant Mason Griffith.

Defend Missouri’s actions not only jeopardize the continued prosecution efforts of Attorney General Bailey’s office, but also threaten the ability to seek the death penalty by influencing the jury. It is well known that the rules of professional conduct prohibit a prosecutor from generating pre-trial publicity, especially in a case where the Attorney General is seeking the ultimate punishment. This creates a huge injustice in the race for Attorney General, leaving General Bailey unable to counter these false attacks while Will Scharf and his associates continue to mislead voters.

Furthermore, the ad shows a complete and utter disdain for Detective
The grieving family of Sergeant Griffith, including his wife and two young sons, who have already
endure unimaginable pain and trauma. They should not be exposed to the harrowing images of their loved one’s killer on television.

In response to the outrageous ad, the Missouri Fraternal Order of Police released a statement condemning the ad and calling on Will Scharf to demand its immediate removal and offer a personal apology to the fallen officer’s family. The Law Enforcement Legislative Coalition (LELC) also condemned the ad and called for Scharf’s removal and apology.
