Union demands Iowa restore right to collective bargaining

(Cedar Rapids, IA) — Union members are demanding that the state restore their collective bargaining rights. Under current Iowa law, key issues such as health care, layoffs and evaluation procedures are nonnegotiable.

At a press conference yesterday, the union and its workers said they want the old guidelines reinstated, saying fair bargaining provides safe, fair working conditions for careers that contribute to better local neighborhoods.

Jesse Case of Teamsters Local 238 in Cedar Rapids says union members have the respect of the community. Now they need the respect of politicians in Des Moines.
