Red Sox get five prospects in Baseball America’s post-draft top 100 rankings

The Boston Red Sox may be battling for a playoff spot in the second half of their 2024 season, but much of the focus is rightfully on their farm system.

After taking Braden Montgomery in the first round of this year’s draft, the Red Sox appeared to have one of the most talented young prospects in baseball.

On Tuesday, Baseball America released its post-draft Top 100 prospect rankings, and five members of Boston’s system were on the list: Marcelo Mayer (No. 10), Roman Anthony (No. 18), Kyle Teel (No. 31), Montgomery (No. 63) and Kristian Campbell (No. 99).

Mayer, who was also ranked No. 10 in their last update, has a .306 batting average with an .852 OPS, eight home runs, 38 RBIs and 13 stolen bases in 74 games for Double-A Portland.

Anthony, who dropped one spot, has a .244 batting average with an OPS of .801, 11 home runs, 29 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 69 games for Portland.

Teel, who dropped four spots, has a .305 batting average with an OPS of .861, nine home runs, 51 RBIs and six stolen bases in 68 games for Portland.

Boston selected Montgomery and he could quickly rise up the rankings once he gets on the field.

Campbell, who dropped 10 spots, has a .395 batting average with a 1.094 OPS, four home runs, 22 RBIs and seven stolen bases in his 35 games since being promoted to Double-A.

Pitching prospect Luis Perales was on these lists earlier this year until a season-ending injury. If he returns before any of these players move up to the majors, it’s possible the Red Sox could have seven prospects in the top 100.
