Baton Rouge Community College Gets $850,000 to Enhance Trades Programs

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Baton Rouge Community College has been selected by Lowe’s as a program to receive $850,000.

According to a press release, the Lowe’s Foundation has selected 11 community and technical colleges to provide Gable Grants to help educate and remove educational barriers to skilled trades careers.

The Gable Grants were launched in 2023 to address challenges in the skilled trades labor market.

According to a BRCC press release, the money would be used to establish a new plumbing trades training program and build a state-of-the-art Construction Trades Outdoor Learning Lab, which will help students walk through realistic construction scenarios.

“We are grateful to the Lowe’s Foundation for selecting Baton Rouge Community College as one of eleven institutions across the country to receive the prestigious Gable Grant,” said BRCC Chancellor Dr. Willie E. Smith, Sr. “This generous support from the Lowe’s Foundation is a tremendous investment in BRCC that will impact our broader community while also being a testament to the work we continue to do to support individuals in training to become skilled workers and enable us to build a state-of-the-art Construction Management Outdoor Training Learning Lab.”
