Dog flu cases temporarily close Montgomery Humane Society

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (WSFA) – The Montgomery Humane Society is closed until Saturday due to cases of canine influenza.

The Humane Society says there are more than 40 symptomatic dogs at the facility. Dogs at the adoption center must be isolated and unavailable for adoption for 28 days. Adoptions of exposed dogs are halted for four weeks.

According to MHS, it will take the next few days to isolate all exposed animals and disinfect other areas so that new, emerging animals can be safely and ethically housed.

Essential pickups will continue to be accepted during the temporary closure. These pickups include sick and injured animals and dogs that pose a threat to public safety.

Citizens who find a lost pet are asked not to bring the animal to the shelter. Cat adoptions will resume as normal on Saturday.
