Data shows Louisiana’s unemployment rate falls for third straight month

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Data from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Louisiana’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell for the third straight month.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in June fell 0.1 percentage points from the rate in May. According to a press release, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for June was 4.0 percent.


“This month’s unemployment rate is the fourth lowest in June history,” said Susana Schowen, secretary of the Louisiana Workforce Commission. “We are committed to working with our stakeholders to help our employers find candidates and provide our residents with the resources they need to find good jobs.”

The number of unemployed, adjusted for seasonal effects, in Louisiana was 83,056 in June, down 3,059 from May, a news release said.

Louisiana’s seasonally adjusted total nonfarm employment was 1,967,400 jobs in June, an increase of 2,600 jobs from May. According to a press release, the state’s adjusted private sector employment was 1,647,300 jobs in June.

According to LWC, the sectors that recorded the largest growth in seasonally adjusted jobs in June were other services, private education and health care, construction, and trade, transportation and utilities.

Closer to home, Baton Rouge has added 1,300 jobs since May and 9,200 jobs since June 2023, according to a press release.
