Senator Kelly and Governor Shapiro top Democratic vice presidential nominee odds

As the presidential betting market is turned upside down after President Joe Biden dropped out on Sunday and Vice President Kamala Harris became the presumptive nominee, the big question of who Harris will be running mate for vice president has opened a new frontier for gamblers.

Harris’ campaign has requested screening of materials on at least seven potential vice presidential candidates, USA TODAY reported Tuesday, including favorites Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D).

“Arizona Senator Mark Kelly is the top choice of bettors at 11/8, closely followed by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro at 9/4,” William Kedjanyi, political betting analyst at British bookmaker Star Sports, said in a statement to USA TODAY.

The betting markets, which U.S. bookmakers cannot legally take action against, agreed with Astley’s assessment, with the betting houses USA TODAY regularly surveyed having Kelly and Shapiro in the lead. The bookmakers agree that North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper (D) and Kentucky Gov. Andrew Beshar (D) are in third and fourth place, respectively.

Here are the odds for the Democratic vice presidential nominee on July 23.
