Pregnant burns survivor Sophie Delezio reveals gender of baby

Sophie Delezio has revealed the gender of her first child as she counts down to the end of her pregnancy.

The 23-year-old burns survivor, whose courage has inspired a nation over the years, said in April she and fiancé Joseph Salerno were expecting.

Delezio shared a video on Instagram from the couple’s gender reveal party, showing the moment they learned whether they were having a boy or girl.

The video begins in black and white and shows them blasting confetti canons before the color kicks in — and the confetti is revealed as blue.

Captioning the video, Delezio gushed, “It’s a … BOY!!”

“We can’t wait to welcome you to the world little man! Your mum and dad are so excited to meet you.”

Delighted fans took to the comments to share their best wishes for the couple.

“Absolutely wonderful news … love the happy dances!!” one said.

“Little boys are the best 💙 Absolutely over the moon for you both, You’re going to be amaaazing parents,” a second added.

A third said: “Kicking screaming crying!! PROUD.”

The gender reveal was held as the couple celebrated the incoming arrival with their nearest and dearest.

“Celebrating our little one’s upcoming arrival with the sweetest baby shower and a special surprise for all our guests!” she wrote in a second Instagram caption.

“Joseph and I are beyond grateful for the love, laughter, and amazing memories made with friends and family near and far.

“Our little bubba is already so loved.”

Delezio announced her pregnancy in April, posting a series of photos taken on a beach.

“The greatest gift of all, coming in September!” she wrote.

Salerno’s arms were wrapped around his partner and her burgeoning baby bump, which was visible under a white dress.

In another photo, Delezio shared a recent ultrasound picture of her baby.

Delezio and Salerno became engaged last year.

Delezio suffered serious burns when a car crashed into her Sydney day care center in 2003, when she was just two years old.

In a second devastating accident, she was hit by a car near her home in 2006 when she was five.

Delezio grew up with all of Australia behind her as they watched her remarkable recovery from the two shocking incidents.

She and Salerno became a couple during the COVID pandemic in 2021, after Salerno popped the question on Valentine’s Day in 2023.

“She turned to me, and I was down on one knee bawling,” he told The Australian Women’s Weekly after the proposal.

“Our go-to song is ‘Be My Baby’ so I just asked if Sophie would be my baby and luckily, she ticked the box on the back of the scrapbook that said yes.”
