High expectations for Ohio State football with the addition of Chip Kelly to the coaching staff

INDIANAPOLIS — Everything old is new again.

Over the past six seasons, Ducks fans have become accustomed to the fact that former Oregon head coach Chip Kelly is now the head coach of UCLA.

But as the Ducks head into the 2024 season in the Big Ten, they’ll once again face Chip as an opponent, this time from a different school.

Kelly made a surprise move in February when he joined Ohio State’s staff as the Buckeyes’ new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Chip joins an Ohio State team that is favored for the Big Ten season.

Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day was full of praise for Kelly on the first day of Big Ten Media Days in Indianapolis.

Day called Chip one of the best offensive minds in college football history.

“I really wanted someone with experience as a head coach,” Day said. “I never thought you’d have someone who was a head coach like he was in college and in the NFL and that background. So it gives me a little bit more peace of mind and definitely a lot of confidence. I trust Chip with my life and that’s a big part of it, when you’re handing over something like that that you’ve done almost your entire career.”

Ohio State went 11-2 last season; the Buckeyes missed the College Football Playoff with a loss to eventual national champion Michigan.

The Buckeyes return 15 starters from last season.

The Oct. 12 game between Oregon and Ohio State at Autzen Stadium has been sold out for months.

Some tickets on the secondary market cost over two thousand dollars.
