Rachel sunga 20-year-old table tennis player from San Jose, California, will represent the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Sung, who began her career as a freshman at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), has already amassed a long list of accomplishments, including a gold medal at the Pan American Games and multiple national championships.

Sung first made her mark in 2012 when she won the girls U-9 singles at the US Open and secured a silver medal in the U-11 category. Her breakthrough on the international stage came in 2015 when she won a bronze medal at the Butterfly Canadian Junior and Cadet Open and a silver medal at the China Junior & Cadet Open.

In 2017, Sung won the Italian Junior & Cadet Open and had a standout performance at the ITTF Pan American Junior Championships, where she won bronze in the mixed doubles and team gold. The following year, she defended her team gold and won the women’s doubles at the ITTF Pan American Junior Championships.

Sung made her senior debut in 2022 at the US National Table Tennis Championships Hsing Family, where she won bronze in the women’s singles and later won the women’s doubles tournament at the 2022 US Open Table Tennis Championships. In 2023, she won gold at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, partnering with her UCLA roommate, Amy Cheek.

At the 2024 US Olympic Team Trials for table tennis, Sung secured a spot on the U.S. team for Paris after finishing second in the women’s singles. She will be joined by her doubles partner Amy Wang and compatriot Lily Zhang.
