An unforgettable golf experience in Scotland

A local golfer travels to Scotland for an incredible golfing experience in the birthplace of the sport.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Gila Ridge’s Trent Karvoski won the Yuma City Golf Championship and had an unforgettable experience this summer playing in Scotland, including the legendary St. Andrew’s course.

“It was awesome,” Karvoski said. “I walked through some of the holes and I could feel the PGA and just everything down there. It was awesome. You could just feel how PGA was born there. Golf was born from all the old pros that were down there and played golf. You could feel it.”

Scotland is a dream destination for any golfer as it is the birthplace of the game.

“I jumped on it right away, because going to Scotland is where golf started,” Karvoski said. “That’s where they started playing golf. The farmers were hitting sticks and rocks and gopher holes.”

Karvoski was one of 24 boys from the U.S. selected by the Volmer family to play abroad, preparing for college and exposing the boys to different cultures.

“We all had different things in mind when we came here, when we left here,” Karvoski said. “And it was cool to learn what everyone’s life is like in Cleveland or Iowa, and also outside of my state where I grew up.”

Next on Karvoski’s wish list is a historic route along the Pacific coast.

“I really want to play Pebble Beach with my dad,” Karvoski said. “It’s something he and his dad used to do almost 30 years ago. He passed away a long time ago, unfortunately. So he was a really good golfer. And there’s a picture of him and his dad on the 12th tee, and I want to recreate it with him.”

Karvoski now focuses on repeating the city title this fall and winning the state title.
