Body found in Augusta homeless camp

The Richmond County Coroner’s Office is investigating a “suspicious death” after a body was found Tuesday at a homeless camp.

According to a press release, the coroner’s office was called to a death in a wooded area at 200 Davis Road.

A male body was found in a homeless camp and pronounced dead at the scene just before 10:30 a.m., the news release said. The deceased had been there for several days.

“Due to the condition of the body, an autopsy is scheduled,” the coroner’s office said. “The GBI will also take steps to make a positive identification.”
