2 men in critical condition after 3 injured in Lansing shooting

LANSING — Three men, including a teenager, were injured in a shooting on Baker Street late Tuesday night.

Two men, ages 35 and 39, were in critical condition, police said. The third victim, an 18-year-old, suffered a non-life-threatening arm injury, LPD spokesman Jordan Gulkis said.

Police were called to the 800 block of Baker Street, between Pennsylvania Avenue and Cedar Street, around 11 p.m. after receiving a report of shots fired.

The 35-year-old man was shot in the ear and is in critical condition, Gulkis said. The 39-year-old man was shot in the head and is in critical condition.

Gulkis said there is “no longer a suspect” and that “the investigation is ongoing.”

No further details have been released.

The shootings are the latest in a string of violent incidents in Lansing, with four people injured in three separate shootings in the city over the weekend.

Three people were shot in two separate incidents Sunday, though none of the three wounded, all men, suffered life-threatening injuries. Police said Monday they had a suspect in one incident, but the person had not yet been arrested. The shootings occurred in the 200 block of Huron Street and in the 4200 block of W. Jolly Road.

A man was shot Saturday morning just east of downtown, near Adado Riverfront Park.

The 34-year-old man, who was not identified, was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, LPD Sgt. Gino Tocco said. Police had no update on the man’s condition Monday.

Police said no arrests have been made. Tocco said the shooting was not random; the investigation is ongoing.

Nine people have died in the city of Lansing this year due to violence. The most recent death was Thomas Blackmon, 35, who was shot to death on June 15.

By the end of July 2023, there were six murders in the city, and in 2022, there were 11 at the same time. In 2021, there were 17 murders recorded in the first seven months of the year.
