Man arrested in St. Paul after carjacking, shooting in Minneapolis – Twin Cities

After a man was shot during a carjacking in Minneapolis, police found the vehicle in St. Paul early Friday morning. The driver led police on a chase and crashed into a house and a tree, police said.

Officers arrested the driver and passenger.

The incident began just before 2 a.m. near Loring Park in Minneapolis. Officers responded to a report of a shooting at 200 Oak Grove Street and found a man with gunshot wounds that appeared to be life-threatening, Minneapolis police said.

He was in an SUV when someone pulled him out. As the vehicle was being stolen, shots were fired and the man was struck, Minneapolis police said. EMS took the man to HCMC.

Just before 3 a.m., St. Paul police assisted Minneapolis police by checking the 800 block of Van Buren Avenue for the Chevrolet Traverse that had been stolen in Minneapolis. Officers found it in the area of ​​Dale Street and Sherburne Avenue.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver drove off “and a pursuit was initiated due to the violent nature of the crime involved,” said Sgt. Mike Ernster, a spokesman for the St. Paul Police Department. The SUV drove through a yard in the 400 block of Sherburne Avenue and struck a home, causing minor damage. No one inside the home was injured, Ernster said.

The driver continued driving before striking a tree in the area of ​​Blair Avenue and Victoria Street, and stopped. The man driving and a woman who was a passenger were taken to Regions Hospital to be evaluated for injuries from the crash.

Police expect the man to be booked into the Ramsey County Jail, Ernster said.
