Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Responds to Raiders’ Kermit the Frog Spot

The Kansas City Chiefs are back-to-back Super Bowl champions, having secured the coveted prize in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. They’re also favored to become the first NFL team to achieve a three-peat, with the rest of the AFC West likely standing in their way: the Los Angeles Chargers, Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders.

The Raiders and Chiefs have a long-standing rivalry, and the Raiders decided to stoke the flames of that rivalry at the start of training camp. The team was shown off with a Kermit the Frog doll wearing a Mahomes jersey and a wig reminiscent of the quarterback’s curly hair.

Mocking the main person responsible for keeping the division (and the entire AFC) in check might not be the best course of action. Now, Mahomes has responded to the ridicule he’s received in the best possible way.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, Mahomes and more spoke during a press conference, and the question about the Kermit doll certainly came up. When Mahomes was asked if he had seen the video and was aware of it, he had this to say:

“Yeah, I mean, it’s early in the year. Things happen,” Mahomes said at his press conference. “It gets handled when it gets handled.”

“Things” like this happen, especially to teams that are deep-seated rivals. Still, maybe it wasn’t the best idea for the Raiders to give the league’s best quarterback more reason to want to beat them.

The Raiders and Chiefs meet twice a season, with their first game coming at home in Week 8. Mahomes and co. may come to town looking to take another crack at the Raiders for making a fool of their leader.

Only time will tell if the Raiders can keep pace with the Chiefs in 2024. They hired Antonio Pierce as their head coach, who was responsible for reviving the team after Josh McDaniels was fired. The team also drafted tight end Brock Bowers, who is reportedly the best pass-catching TE coming out of college, and signed former Miami Dolphins Pro Bowl defensive tackle Christian Wilkins.

The Raiders have a lot to offer, but they will have to play well to beat the Chiefs.
