Idaho is part of $86 million settlement with opioid maker Indivior

According to a recent press release, Attorney General Raul Labrador has announced an $86 million multi-state settlement in principle with opioid manufacturer Indivior over the manufacturer’s role in fueling the spread of opioid addiction in Idaho and across the country.

Indivior manufactured buprenorphine-based products to treat opioid addiction. Attorney General Labrador and a coalition of attorneys general from multiple states allege that Indivior improperly targeted its sales to dangerous prescribers, including doctors who ran pill mills.

Indivior also failed to monitor suspicious orders, resulting in the company’s products being improperly prescribed and used to feed, rather than treat, opioid addiction.

“The greed and exploitation that fueled the opioid crisis has now spread even to the very companies that claimed to solve the problem by treating addictions,” said Attorney General Labrador. “These settlements will never bring those lost lives back together, but hopefully we can prevent the devastation of future addictions with wisely targeted investments in prevention and treatment.”

The settlement provides participating states with $86 million over five years, which will be used for programs to treat, recover from and prevent opioid addiction.

The Indivior settlement was negotiated by the attorneys general of New York, Illinois, Tennessee, Utah and Virginia, in conjunction with an executive committee of the attorneys general of California, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon and Vermont.
